Default Resource Usage View

Dear all,
I have several MS-Project 2010 (standard) files which I used in an MS Project Master file.
Additionally, I use a resource pool to get the planned capacity.
So far so good.
Now when I use the resource usage view I can see the resource and the utilitization. Fine so far.
But now I want to see how much the resource is scheduled for a specific summary task. I can see all the detailed tasks, but not the summary task.
So for example:
Summary Task:
Specification
Tasks:

Kick Off meeting King Kong
Write Spec King Kong
Review Spec Peter Miller

I would like to see how many days King Kong and Peter Miller are planned for Specification.
I am not interested in the Kick Off meeting efforts etc.

How can I do it?
I recall having asked this 6-7 years ago on a far older project version and to achieve this was a lengthy setup which finally worked beautiful. But I can't find it anymore.
Can you help?
Or is there an easier way to achieve it?

thanks
Bumpui

Default

In Project 2010 you can create a custom group in the Resource usage view to group by Resource and then by Task Summary Name.

The attached picture shows the group definition. You should see the Resource names, then summary tasks and if you show work (default field in the Resource Usage view) it will summarize the work by Task and Resource.

Default Plan vs. Resource Pool

Hi JulieS
actually I found out how to do it in the Planning MS P.
I grouped it (still couldnt find the window you mentioned) and it displays exactly what I want.
Thanks
But:
We have MSPs for projects and projects run parallel.
so I can see what I need on a per project basis, but I would also like to see it for all projects on a resource basis. So I used my resourcepool, where I also have groups (teams again).
But here I can see the resource name, the work per resource name, the group he is in and the project.
But I do not get the summary tasks and strangely I do not get the sum of all working days for this group. I would have to export it and then add it up.
Any possibility to do this here?
Thanks
Bumpui

The screen shot from above I believe is exactly what you need to do.
  1. Apply the Resource Usage view.
  2. Click the View Ribbon.
  3. Click the Group drop down.
  4. Select New Group.
  5. Create the group as I have shown in the screen shot.

Default Resource vs. Assignment

Hi Julie,

I cannot select Assignment as field type for task summary name, only resource. It is greyed out.
Any idea?
Any setup wrong?

Thanks

I'm glad to know you found the checkbox "Group assignments, not resources".
