Help with MS Project 2010
Hi,
I am using MS Project 2010. I usually have 2000-3000 tasks in my schedule. I have observed that whenever I open the MSP file and save it,it increases the size of the file.I have not made any changes in my plan. Doing the same thing 2-3 times increases the size of file to a larger extend when I compared to the original file. Also I have observed that if I increase the column width of some columns the size increases? Please help. Any inputs related to same will be valuable. Thanks |

The first issue to tackle is do you have SP-2 installed to Project 2010? Are you using automatic leveling?
If you open a file, press F9 to recalculate and then save, does that help? If you open the file and immediately save as another file name, does that help? I'm not sure what you mean about increasing the column width. Are you saying the file size increases? |

Hi,
Here are the answers to your queries. a) The first issue to tackle is do you have SP-2 installed to Project 2010? Ans - Version 14.0.6129.5000 (32 bit) - Not sure about SP-2 or SP-1 b) Are you using automatic leveling? Ans - No, we are not using automatic leveling. Its manual c) If you open a file, press F9 to recalculate and then save, does that help? Ans - No, it did not help. d) If you open the file and immediately save as another file name, does that help? Ans - No, it did not help. e) I'm not sure what you mean about increasing the column width. Are you saying the file size increases? Ans - By Increasing the column width, I mean expanding the columns, the size is increasing. One more thing I observed is changing the font also changes the size of file which I feel is genuine. Please share your inputs. Thanks |

From the release information, it looks like you do not have SP-2 installed. So, the first step is to download and install SP-2. You can check for the installation of SP-2 through File > Help. Click on the Additional Version and Copyright Information.
It also sounds as if you may have some corruption in the file. On a copy, save as XML and then re-import. You will lose custom formatting. |
