Default Autoscheduling jumps by years in advance

I am very new to MS project. I have a general idea after looking around, but I've run into a problem.

I have created a standard project. I've added some data and have created a resource against the data. The resource is for 1200%, e.g. 12 people.

I went to autolevel, but I get some of the project for a small part of the year, and a bunch of other projects apparently being done years in advance.

This is like totally bogus. This completely screws the project.

Why is this happening and can somebody offer some advice please

Cheers

Too broad of a question for me to answer without actually seeing the project. Is it one you can share?

I had the same problem and for the life of me can't understand why.

However, without really understanding, the solution is very simple - go to the gantt chart and actually shorten the bars. than - level all.
It worked for me
