Project Hours
Hello Forum, I need 1 resource (place) to work 20 hours a day duration and may have more hours assigned than duration. Such as, 32 hours of work but will take 16 hours to complete (2 people) leaving 4 hours remaining in day 1. Tasks are auto scheduled. I've tried setting calendar to 20 hours working time and tasks to fixed work. I enter 32 hours in the work column and enter 16 hours in the duration column but project doesn't see to spread the hours correctly. It spreads the hours 16 hours over 2 days. Project is spreading the duration longer than the set duration. How is the best way to set this up? Thanks in advance |

I don't fully understand what you are seeking. What is the place?
if you intend that two resources will work on the task for eight hours per day (16 hours in total per day) - assign two resources. Or ensure you have 200% of the resource assigned to be able to generate 16 hours of work per day. The duration is two 8 hour days the work is 32 with 16 hours of work per day for 2 days. |

The "place" is an area that I want to capture the hours worked in. Like at a work bench or similar area.
I want this resource to have a 20 hr work day. If I have 2 people working in this resource area for 16 hours (duration) I would set the work at 32 hours (work). The problem is that when I put 32 hours of work and 16 hours of duration Project spreads the hours (work) longer than the 16 hours (duration). Instead of 32 hours (work) and only one day because 16 hours will fit within one 20 hour day, Project spreads the hours over 2 days. |

Not sure if I understand the problem correctly, let me know if I am wrong.
you have an area that will be in use for 20 hours a day, regardelss of how many people are there, so you effectively want project to work out nmumber of people if you tell it how many hours were worked? I would suggest that you change the task type from Fixed Work (which I assume it is on) to Fixed Duration. this would enable you to inout the amount of work done, and project would maintain the task as a 1 day duration. Again sorry if this isnt what you are asking still a tad confused with it. |

Do your human resources work 20 hours per day or only the space? If your resources' calendars only allow 8 hours per day - the 32 hours will go to the next day - even if the space allows 20 hours of work per day.
What time does the task start? Please describe the following: Working time for the room calendar. Working time for the human resources. Starting date/time for the task. |
