Saving mpp file as XML
Hi Fellow Forum Members
As a result of file "bloat" issues I saved a current mpp file as an XML file and re-imported it to a new mpp file. This cured the "bloat" issue however it has changed a number of finish dates in the plan. I have not had this happen before. So has anyone else come across this issue and if so how did you resolve it please. Kind regards Tony |

I have not seen this issue. It is possible that the corruption you fixed through saving as XML was causing a miscalculation of dates. Anything consistent with the changed dates? Manually scheduled? Particular task type? Task calendars?

Hi Julie
Thanks for the response. There were initially some manually scheduled tasks so I advised the PM to fix those first. We then re-ran the XML option but it is still throwing out some dates. One option I am considering is to export all task data to Excel and then re-importing it to Project to see if that r4esolves the issue. Not tried it yet - what do you think? There are no task calendars all tasks are running off the Standard calendar. I have done the XML option on a couple of other large plans with no issue at all!!! Thanks Tony |

Again, may be a case of corruption and the XML is solving. How far off are the dates?

Hi Julie
They are between 1 and 9 days and there appears to be no pattern. Thanks Tony |

Hmm. Odd. Is this a file you can attached and share?

Hi Julie
Unfortunately I cant share the file. However after further investigation I found one task that had the duration increased from 75 days to 84 days as a result of exporting to XLM and re-importing to a new plan. Once I fixed the duration the go-live returned to the original date. As you, I have used this option many times before and have never seen this issue. Thanks for your help. Tony |
