If you are assigning resources you can modify their calendars and make the selected weekend(s) working days. Or you can create an additional base calendar, making the weekends working days, and assign the base calendar to the task as a Task calendar. (Task Information > Advanced tab).

thx Julie, I created an additional weekend calendar to assign tasks to. However, the amount of work (e.g.) does not match with the size of the task bar, the length will always be full day work (8 h) even when I put the task to 0 or 2 hours. Why is that ?

Are you referring to the length of the bar in the Gantt chart? Try right clicking in the back ground of the Gantt chart and selecting Layout. Uncheck "round bars to whole days".

yes, bars in Gantt, 'round bars to whole days' just squeezes de bars but doesn't change mutch, even when I shrink the bar manually, the amount of work does not change either

When you assigned the calendar to the task - did you select "Scheduling ignores resource calendar"?
When you say you "put the task" to 2 or zero hours - what do you mean? Can you attach a copy of the file to your reply? |

dear Julie, please find attachment
1/ 1 summarytask with 6 subtasks (no calendar), 4 tasks complete > bars turn red, summary bar turns approx 50% red = ok 2/ recurring task with 8 subtasks (weekend calendar), NO summary bar ? (instead 8 split bars), 4 tasks final > bars turn red (both task and rolledup), Questions: 1/ no summary bar on recurring tasks ? 2/ amount of work (hours) does not reflect size of task bar ? regards roland |

You have a very customized Gantt chart view - your red tasks are completed - not the traditional critical.
There is no summary bar drawn for recurring tasks - each recurrence just rolls up. You don't have any resources assigned to the tasks so there is no connection between Work and Duration. |

thanx Julie,
1/ I hoped there was a summary bar drawn for recurring tasks - but each recurrence just rolls up, I don't think there is any option, is there ?. 2/ I did assign resources to the tasks uxcept for the weekend in the recurrend task. when I put a resource, the task shift outside the weekend have new file uploaded regards, roland |

No. Recurring tasks do not have a summary bar.
When you assign a task calendar and resources are assigned with different calendars you must check off the "Scheduling ignores resource calendars" to have the task be scheduled only the the task calendar. The weekend calendar has every day as working time from 08:00 to 12:00 . As every day is a working day, the task is not being scheduled just for weekends. |

Agree.
The reason why I want to use this calendar is that, when multiple daily tasks are planned (on weekdays and weekend), it happens that a series of tasks shifts forward with a few days. In this case, some days might be shifted to the weekend without having the weekend calendar assigned to, and as such pops to Monday rather to Saturday or Sunday |

Most of your tasks have constraints of Start No Earlier than 2/24. Unless you remove those constraints the tasks cannot start earlier - even if they have a task calendar.

Julie, in order to be able to shift a whole series of tasks forward of backward with the same amount (e.g. 1 week), what is the best strategy to define series ? avoid using the 'constraint type' ?

The first question would be why is the series of tasks moving? If the predecessor has been delayed - delay the predecessor and yes, you may have to add a constraint.
If the series of tasks is delayed because the predecessor is taking longer - increase the remaining duration when tracking to show the increase in duration and work. |
