Default How to calculate edays?

Hi 2 all!
I work on a project with just a calendar days and I want edays in duration column.
e.g. if I enter jan 1st as start and feb. 1st as finish, in duration column I want number 31 and it has to be calculated by MSP.
So far i did calculation in excel and write numbers in duration field.

Can't MSP do that math?

Tried with calendar, and all i got is feel like a dumb.

THNX

1. Create a new calendar - call it 7Days.
2. Edit the calendar so that Saturday and Sunday are working days with the same times as Monday through Friday.
3. Add a spare Duration column (Duration1).
4. Right click on the column and choose "Custom fields"
5. Select Formula.
6. Enter the formula below:

ProjDateDiff([Start],[Finish],"7Days")

The tasks need to be auto scheduled.

Thank you JulieS, U R my

But (there is always some kind of but)!
Between jan 1st and feb 1st result is 31.88 days.
That .88 is from feb 1st till 17:00 (i can see that on Gant)
Is there solution to make some kind of 24/7 calendar with working times 0-24?
In that case Gant will be from jan 1st at 0:00 till feb 1st 0:00.

And another 100... thnx for your time and efort.

What is your regular calendar working time? 8-12 and 1 to 5? What is your definition of a day?

Feb 1 is a non-working day - usually. There must be something else going on. I get 32 days by the way. If the task start at the start of the working day (08:00 on January 1) and finishes at the end of the working day (Feb 1 at 17:00), that is 32 days without holidays.

32 is probably round of 31.88
I try with start date feb 11 and end date feb 12 result is 1.88 (always is .88)
If I enter start date jan 1, and duration 31 ed, finish date will be calculated as feb 1.
End date should be until that date, not include it.
I'm tired of calculate in Excel, and I would like to do that in opposite way, to enter just start and end date.
By the way, it is about working hours of machines.

Edays uses a 24 hour per day clock so I would expect it to work correctly. Show time with your date (File > Options, Display). My guess is the task is not starting at the beginning of your working time.
My guess is you have longer than an 8 hour day in your calendar.

If I have more than an 8 hour day in my calendar "error" will be greater with longer time period. I tried with whole year, result is 365,88 days. When i zoom in Gant chart it ends at 5 pm of end date.
If I enter same date for start and end, result is 0.88.
Can't get number without decimals.
It's hard to believe that such complex program can't do that simple math.

Sorry for wasting your time, I'm back to excel and manually entering Edays

I assure you, Project is very good at math.

As I have tried to explain, you have a mismatch between your Project calendar (Project Ribbon, Change Working time) and your definition of a day and week. Zooming in to the Gantt chart is not a substitute for looking at both your options settings (File > Options, Schedule) and your calendar.

So - what is your working time in your calendar. (Please check - Project Ribbon, Change Working time.)

What is your definition of day and week - File > Options, Schedule.
What is your default start time?
What is your default end time?

Thank you for your patience, You were so helpful.

You're most welcome. Have a bit of patience with Project and I think you'll discover that it is far more efficient to schedule with Project than with Excel.
