saving views or timescales to be able to restore a particular layout
I am sort of new to ms project but I've been struggling to get what I feel is some baasic functionality going. What I want to do is look at my project in different "views" each having a different timescale. I am tired of having to change the time scale constantly back and forth to achieve what I'm after.
Is there not a way to save a "view" of a gantt chart so that I can leave the time scale and return to it easily without renetering all the information??? i have tried googling and using help and maybe I just don't know the right terminology but I am coming up empty handed edit: I was using 2007 but just downloaded a trial of 2013 thinking it might be a feature that was missing in the old version. can't find it in either Last edited by oompa_l; 02-06-2014 at 09:12 AM. Reason: ms project version |

You may create multiple custom views quite easily. In Project 2013 apply the custom zoom and other view enhancements you need. On the Task Ribbon click the drop down under the Gantt Chart button and select Save View. Give the view a name. You can then return to the standard Gantt Chart view and then select the same button and re-set the standard view.

thanks!!! i guess you couldnt do this in 2007?
also, i'm having trouble controlling my printing settings, which i didn't back in 2007 version - i am forcing printing to occur on one page and specifyinh start and end dates. The problem i'm having is that the end date is not actually being picked up in the print. Not sure what's going on but I wonder if it is actually including the entire task that falls on the cutoff line. it's hard to explain, but i'll describe the scenario - My last task is a year long, say from Jan 2016 to Dec 2016. I have specified that the end date of my printing range is Feb 2016 but in both the preview and the resultant print I am still getting the entire task...any ideas? |

Sorry. Yes, of course you can do this in Project 2007. The issues with printing in Project 2013 were addressed (partially) with some cumulative updates, I expect SP-1 will be released soon.

You may install the Cumulative updates to a trial and yes, you could save views in Project 2007. The "Save As View" command is not as accessible, but if you open the view menu and select "More Views" you can save a view under a new name.

I would install the December 2013 hotfix. It should roll up all previous hot fixes.
