Hours in MS Project Changed
Not sure why hours assigned to resources changed. For example, we had 30 hours for one employee under work and baseline but when we ran a baseline cost report, her hours were almost doubled (58) under baseline work but her hours under cumulative work was correct. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix that?

What version of Project? If you are using Project 2010 you should be at SP-2. The baseline data is not changed by Project - is it possible that someone either manually changed the baseline or saved a new one? You mention the Baseline Cost Report - does the data appear correctly if you add the Baseline Work to a view, instead of running the report?

Thanks for your reply. We are using Project 2010 and we have saved a new one. And when we add the baseline work in a view, it is correct. So why is it different from the report we run?

You said you are running the Baseline Cost report - what level of detail are you viewing? Without seeing your report parameters and your project it is impossible to guess why you are seeing incorrect data. As a first step make sure you are up to date on service packs and cumulative updates.

We first saw the variance at first level, then we looked at each subtask and found out only 1 subtask has this issue. All others are correct.

If it has only changed on one task - my bet is someone changed the field manually.

Julie, what's really frustrating is that we deleted that task and added a new one and it's still giving us the same problem. When we view the resource assignment in Project, it gives us the right number of baseline hours but when we run a report, they just went up.

Do you have SP-2 installed to Project 2010? When you added the new task, did you re-baseline it? Are you looking at the baseline cost for the summary task or the detail task?
Do you have resources assigned to the summary task? |

We don't have SP-2. We did re-baseline it after deleting that task and adding a new one loaded with the same resources. No resources were assigned to the summary task but when I noticed the difference at the summary level and drilled down, that's when we discovered one specific task with this issue.

Please install SP-2 at a minimum and consider installing the December 2013 Cumulative update after installing SP-2.

Let me try that and see if that takes care of the problem. Thanks!

After having SP2 installed, I can't run any visual reports now. I keep getting an error message saying "an unknown error has occurred and the requested action could not be completed at this time".

Have you restarted you machine after the installation of SP-2?

Julie, thanks so much. I think SP2 did solve the problem! We can't run reports to see costs by week but we can still run "by month" reports and the numbers tie!! Thanks so much!!
