How does "fixed work" work?
Hello everybody,
I am working on a project and I've set the task type as "Fixed Work". I have scheduled my resources to work 8 hours per day. My problem is what hours to insert in Work Field > Task Form. For example, if a task has a duration of 3 days and 1 resource assigned with 200% units, what do I insert in Work field? 24 hours or 48 hours? Every suggestion and correction about the way I verge on the issue is more than welcome! Thank you in advance, Sofia. |

Hello Sofia,
When you assign resources to tasks, Project will calculate one of the 3 variables:
For example: If a task is Fixed Work:
If a task is Fixed Units:
If you have a task duration of 3 days - and assign a resource at 200%, Project will calculate 48 hours of work. However - assigning a resource at 200% will usually cause the resource to be overallocated if the resource's max units are set to 100%. If you know how much work a task is, you can specify the work and Project will calculate the duration. If a task is 24 hours of work and your resources are only available 8 hours per day, the task duration should be 3 days. I hope this helps. |
