36 days task at 40% effort - only "0.86 days" in resource
Hi,
I've got a set of tasks in project and I'm using the resource view to see the efforts so I can do the costing. My manual calculations came out higher, I looked into the difference and I found at least one Task that hasn't been calculated properly. The Task shows 36 days duration, with 40% effort for "bob bobson" - but only "0.86 days" in resource view. For another employee "John Johnson" with a 20% effort against the same task it shows the expected 7.2 days! Bob bobsons other tasks seem to calculate appropriately, he has a 0.5 day 100% effort coming up as 0.5 days of resource. What on earth could be causing it to pick out a specific resource and task and somehow work it out differently? I have no idea where the 0.86 days is coming from. I'd also expect it to be spread out across the task duration (as it is for John Johnson) but it's confusingly split over two days in the middle of the 36 day window! Has anyone come across this before? (Project 2003) |

Does Bob Bobson have non-working time in his calendar? Have you resource leveled Bob?

I've checked working time calendar, the only non-working time is the weekends. I'm not sure what you mean by resource leveled? I certainly haven't tried to do it :S

What happens if you unassign bob and then re-assign? Assignments can certainly be edited in the Task or Resource usage view - do you see a pencil in the indicator column to the left of the assignment?

I'm not sure if I did what you meant, I deleted the name and added it back in and there isn't a little pencil 'edited assignment' in the task view.
Now however, it has changed to "0 days"! |

Aha, for some reason the start and finish dates are the same for that particular assignment!

And I can see a few where the start and finish date are different. That seems to be the problem I've been having.

Is this a file that you can zip and email to me? I'll take a look.

-Task1 35 days Thu 11/04/13 Thu 30/05/13 - Bob Bobson 0 days Thu 11/04/13 Thu 11/04/13 So Bob Bobson was down for that task, but his assignment was 40% of 0 days. Changing the assignments end dates to match the task end dates fixed the issue. The only thing is how it got like that in the first place, I'd never been in the Task view before. |

Great. Glad you have it sorted out. Not sure how the start and finish dates of the assignment got altered - sadly there is no method of finding that out.
