Default Baseline query

Hi

I have had to add a few new tasks to my baselined schedule. Should I update the current baseline or create a new baseline?

What is the impact on the project statistics which I am reporting weekly when doing either of the above? Should I just expect to see the difference in the current and baselined work which should equate to the number of work hours added in the new tasks? Just trying to figure out what impact this will have on my reporting.

Thanks for your help

Jo

Default Just to follow up

I actually re-set the baseline and extracted my stats. I can explain the difference in the baseline figures.

What I have lost is all the original work variance that I report on weekly. It now simply shows that everything was completed exactly in line with the tasks baselined work. Ie; it's saying a task had baseline of 1 hour, work of 1 hour and actual work of 1 hour.

I know the task actually had (before updating the baseline), baseline of 2 hours, work of 1 hour and actual work of 1 hour. Giving a variance of -1 hr.

I've lost all this data. How can I get it back, or what should I have done differently? I have a copy of the schedule saved prior to resetting this baseline so if someone could please let me know, there may be a chance I can start again with the saved, original version, and keep my variances!

Thanks for your help

Jo

Before re-baslining copy your original baseline to Baseline1. That will preserve your original baseline. Then over write the baseline with a new one.

You can change which baseline is used to calculate variance in File > Options, Advanced, Earned value section. (Project 2010).

Hi Julie

Thanks for replying. I am unsure how to copy my original baseline to baseline 1. I can see there is a copy function on interim plan but not the baseline option.

Can you talk me through this please?

I don't want to lose all the variance data I have.

Thanks

Jo

in Project 2010:

Project tab > Set Baseline > Set baseline.
click Set Interim Plan
Copy Baseline
Intro: Baseline 1

You can then set the calculation of variance through File > Options, Advanced.
