Default changing calendar vs duration

In my schedule there were unstarted activities with certain durations based on 5 day regualr calendar.

When I changed my calendar to a 6 day working calendar, those durations remained the same but the finish dates got sooner now. Why did the duration remain the same? How can i make duratino to update automatically when i change from 5 day calendar to 6 day calendar?

Because the definition of a "day" or "week" is set in Tools > Options, not through the calendar.

I'm guessing you are using 1 day = 8 hours and 1 week = 40 hours.

Correct. Duration is always measured in working time. So, for example:

The task was originally 4 days long - starting on Wednesday and finishing on the following Monday. Four working days counting Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday. Saturday and Sunday are not counted in the "4 days" because, unless you have changed the calendar, Saturday and Sunday are non-working days.

You then change the calendar and let Saturday be a working day. The task duration is still 4 days - but now ends on Saturday because Saturday is now a working day.

but now i made a new calendar with 10 hour workdays and still 5 days a week. but although the finish dates again got closer, the durations remained the same. this time wouldnt the durations change? because those durations were based on a 8 hour workday. but now i have 10 hourt workdays and the durations remained the same. how can this be? and if i need to correct something, what should i correct?

A "day" is still 8 hours. If all of your tasks are based upon a 10 hour work day, you should change the definition of "day" in Tools > Options. Schedule. However, if you have a mixture of calendars, some with 8 and some with 10 hours per day you're going to have to choose one definition.

I suggest stopping talking "duration" and start talking start and end dates if you have mixed calendars.
