How to Improve task Detail in Team Planner ?
OK so I have 10 projects sharing a resource pool.
I'm in one project and I see in the Team Planner that I have a resource conflict. So I click on a conflicting task in the Team Planner and I get the message; 'xyz' is a summary resource assignment 'This external task represents work from a different project, and is read only. to drag this task or edit details. you must first open 'xyz' or something very similar. My problem is that whilst each of my projects is named, the tasks within them do not carry the project name so it is difficult for me to identify in which project task xyz is located. So to use an example I'm a road repairer with 10 projects. I see that I have a resource conflict I get the message as above which says 'fill in holes' is a summary resource assigment'..... How do I work out which of my road repair projects this relates to ? I notice that the outline numbering does not carry through to the team planner so I can't use that as an ID. Do I have to prefix all tasks within a project with a unique project code ? eg so i get P001 Fill in Holes.. or am I missing a much easier way ? Any suggestions welcomed Tony |

Hello Tony,
The Resource Details form has a "Project" field which tells you which project the assignment comes from. From the Team Planner view, click the Resource tab and select "Details" to show the Resource Form in the bottom pane. I hope this helps. Julie |

Julie,
You have saved me again - thank you. For completeness I would just add that once the bottom pane is displayed you have to click on the Resouce Name to bring in the details. Tony |

Does this work in 2010? I want to project roll up name to show on the team planner view so I can print it.

Yes, that is the release Tony is using. However, the Project field is showing in the Resource Details form in the lower pane. Split views cannot be printed. You can take a screen shot, but the field cannot be displayed in the Team Planner view.
You can add the field to the Resource Usage view however. |

Oh I see. That only works if you're using a resource pool.
I have a programme of work with multiple streams of work. The streams of work have multiple projects with subtasks. I'm trying to get a visual high level view of resource overallocation. Does something exist? I've tried the visual reports and feel like I've hunted through Project but nothing seems very suitable. |

If you have multiple separate project files, the only way to see resource utilization of the same people across the files is to have a resource pool. You can create a consolidated Project (Project tab, Subproject in Insert Group) but this will not combine multiple resources together.
I would look at the Resource Usage view or the Team Planner view if you are using Project Professional. |

I'm just using one project file. I've created the programme of work much like a normal project - just a very high level one.
So I have things like: STREAM OF WORK -Project A --information architecture (resource assigned here) (times a bunch of these) But when I go into team planner instead of seeing "Project A - information architecture" against a resource it just shows "information architecture". So I can't see at a glance what project is actually relates to. Is there a way to improve the task detail? |

Sorry, the Team planner view has very limited formatting capacity. You can use the Resource Usage view and add the field "Task Summary Name" to show summary task data such as "project A" in your scenario.
