Default Delay prediction formula for custom fields

Hello,

I have a project with a lot of dependencies, and would like to see whether a task is at risk to be delayed, because a predecessor is in delay or is not in the percentage of completion as it should be.

Is there a custom field formula that would connect all the tasks to its predecessor and if the predecessor would be delayed, either by not being finished in time, (end date missed), or should be in the actual time at a certain percentage but is in its progress slower, that this formula would state task at risk.

This would tremendously help me to focus my activity on problematic tasks

Hello,

I'm afraid this will not be available through custom fields -- custom fields can only refer to the current task, not other tasks.

However, showing critical path, saving a baseline and displaying baseline against current schedule should show you tasks which are changing.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply,
but I´m looking for a custom field due to a specific reason, I will put on the field a graphical indicator, for management reports, and honestly with a lot of task and dependencies a baseline against progress is quite a pain for evaluation, anyway I look for a forecast, that means on tasks that may not have started, therefore are aligned with the baseline.

Im qute sure there will be a formula in the custom fields that can work deliver such function but, I´m not very strong will all thouse "If´,s;and´s;or´s...ect
(I have so far a graphical indicator showing delayed tasks, on time and without baseline,...)
I just need the formula that looks for predecessor and in case they are delayed put a flag "at risk" on the depending task

Im sure Im not the only one looking for such function...

You cannot use custom fields to check another task's progress. the only option is through VBA code to refer to another task.

Using code you would need to loop through the list of tasks and set a flag if the task's predecessor is delayed -- however not available through custom fields.

However, if the task's predecessor is delayed and the tasks are linked, the successor tasks schedule should be altered. The start variance and/or finish variance shows any change from baseline. You certainly can set graphic indicators (Red, Amber, Green) using start or finish variance.

OK than that what I´m looking for is the VBA code, can any one help me with that?

I doubt you'll have much luck here. Try posting to the MSDN project customization forum:

Please be explicit in your post -- what version of Project as well as what your definition of "delayed" is when looking at predecessor information -- do you need to check start variance, finish variance, etc.
