I am presenting information for about 100 resources over a two week period. I have inputt start and finsih times in the gant chart information fields for each resources tasks over the two week period. The format of the start and finish times is dd/mm/yy hrs/mins e.g. 29/03/12 08:00.
When I view this information in the team planner view I can set my timescale to be in minutes. This allows me to view the tasks to the appropriate degree of accuracy. The problem is when I zoom out to see the tasks over a larger timeframe e.g. 2-3 days then the timescale changes to 1hour blocks. This is acceptable but the problem is that the start/finish time accuracy is hindered. The time is now rounded up to the nearest 1 hour block on the timeline.
Is there a way that the tasks can still maintain there accuracy in minutes on the timeline even when the timescale is set to hours?

Hi David,

No sorry. When you zoom out, by definition you are losing accuracy. As an aside, unless you are working with manually scheduled tasks, entering start and finish dates/times is not usually the recommended method of using Project.

I have found out how to ensure the actual start of a task will be maintained regardless of what timescale is selected. Under File-Options-Schedule 'Default start time' and 'default end time' I had selected a 24hr period i.e. Start time = 00:00 and the end time 00:00. This was making the start time and end time round UP to the minimum time interval on the timeline. When i changed the end time to 23:59 the start and endtimes did not roundup anymore and stayed at their actual times on the timeline! Is this a bug with the software?

Changing default start and end time to a 24-hour period is likely not wise. It should match your calendar. Are you using the 24-hours calendar to schedule your project?

Yes I am using the 24 hour calendar to schedule the calendar. Even though the task times now can be seen to start at their actual time. The shift start and end times are rounded up so this only partially solves the problem.

I'm afraid I'm just not seeing what you see. Can you explain further? I'm guessing you are using durations in hours?

My duration is in minutes when I import my information into the Gantt Chart columns. When I zoom out in 'team planner' mode so that the horizontal timeline is in hourly intervals, the view shows the on-shift time beginning at 7:00am even though the information I put into my calendar indicates the shift begins at 07:30am. This time integrity is lost as the timeline interval is increased i.e. to 2 hour intervals or 4 hr intervals.
I managed to avoid the rounding up of each task to the nearest time interval on the timeline as explined before i.e. by setting my day end to 23:59 instead of 00:00. But this isnt having the same efect on the off-shift time bars.
Should the off-shift bars manitain there actual start and end time in minutes even though the 'team planner' view is zoomed out to different time intervals?

How have you change the "off shift time" - through Change Working Time? If I zoom in to show every 15 minutes, the data appears correctly.

Yes I have changed the off-shift time through 'Change Working Time'.
My shift times are also accurate because my shift times either end or start on the hour or at half past the hour. The 15min interval would always fall on these times. When i zoom out to hourly intervals the shifts finsihing at half past are shown to round up to the next hour.
Are you changing the shift times so that if for example the shift ended at 00:08 and your timescale is in 15min intervals, the off shift shaded area would finish actually at 00:08 and not 00:15?

Sorry for the delay in replying. I do now see what you are reporting. The level of accuracy is not to the minute in the team planner view. I also see that when I change the non-working time to something unusual (break from 12:08 to 1:08) the non-working time for that hour disappears from the team planner view.
