Exclamation Best way for tracking and report

which better to track the project tasks and issue a report as following method,

1) save basline on first plan and then tracking the actual on same plan then make comparison reoport up to date you want the report

or

2) creat 2 copy from original plan one (let caled it 1) for tracking the project status up to date as plan by using tracking project automaticly up to date
and make another copy (let caled it 2) for actual tracking by hands, tracking task and put the actual progress and date
then make excell sheet and compare tasks progress for plan(1) and actual (2) task by task and creat shart.

i use the second method while our tasks changes from time to time. for more flexibility. our plan not stable. for one project i have 4 revision of plan.

some task delete totaly and some task are new totally.

so recommend which better method.

Sorry to disappoint, but I use option 1 -- project has built in comparisons through the calculation of variance. I would not be creating an Excel spreadsheet to do what is built in.

If you want to use option two, have you considered using the Compare Project add-in to compare the two versions of the file? Again, it's built in to Project and avoids having to create the additional Excel file.

There are a number of built in reports in Project 2007 available through the Reports menu. The Earned Value over Time visual report may show what you are searching for -- but in order to work with any comparison reports, you first need to have resources with costs assigned to tasks as well as a saved baseline.

Your calculation settings in Tools > Options, Calculation should be automatic. Your resource leveling calculation should be manual, in my opinion.
