Default How to create statis Baseline date columns

Hi

I have a plan which has actual start and finish date columns based on predecessors and successors. Since a project may run for a few years I wanted to add baseline start and finish date columns so user can easily spot delays, shifts in timing. This should be easy, but haven't worked out how to do it. I tried just copy paste the actuals into the baseline columns. However they are then linked to the predecessors and successors and change along with the actuals. Is there a way just to copy the values as static dates, or a better way to do this? Please note I'm relatively new to project and couldn't find solution in online help/books.

Many thanks, Ross

The Baseline data is automatically populated when you save a baseline. Project ribbon > Schedule Group > Set Baseline.

When you save a baseline Project will copy:
Start --> Baseline Start
Finish --> Baseline Finish
Duration--> Baseline Duration
Cost --> Baseline Cost
Work --> Baseline Work

for each task. You can then view variance by applying the Variance table or if you are using the Tracking Gantt you can see the baseline bars as compared to Current.

I hope this helps.

Julie

Default Duration didn't copy to Baseline Duration when I saved a Baseline

I created a schedule and entered task names, durations, and logic (predecessors/relationships) and saved the schedule. At a later date, I set a baseline. When I started adding columns to the Tracking Gannt view, it appeared that no Baseline information was copied over.

If I understand the previous answer, the Baseline Duration column should have been populated with the information that I had already entered in the Duration column, correct? Is there a way to make Project copy this information over?

When you save a baseline - the data is copied. If you saved a baseline after tracking - it will reflected the tracked data.

Are you sure you are adding the same baseline fields that you saved to? You can have Baseline 1, Baseline 2, Baseline etc.
