Windows XP Format problem in ppt viewer

It was straight text, no enhancements or effects and formatted using the list tool with a plain bullet for each item. This:

       lorem ipsum.........

came out in the viewer:

This was on a laptop purchased in 2011 using a reader d/l from the MS site in 2011.
