Default PPT 2010 Audio Edit Problem

Hi. I've been a PPT user for quite a long time, but the audio edit in '10 is new to me and I'm totally boggled by what is going on. A have a slide that plays an unedited audio clip and then is supposed to move to the next slide automatically. This next slide contains an edited audio clip - I cropped beginning and end and set this clip to play automatically when slide is opened. The problem is that the first slide will not automatically advance to the slide that contains the clipped audio (I have to manually advance it) and the clipped audio slide will not automatically advance to the side after it. I have gone over the settings quite a few times and I cannot find anything amiss. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? From all appearances, all my settings are correct.
