Default Show all windows in taskbar option for PP 2010.

I don't see any option for "Show all windows in taskbar" option for PowerPoint 2010. Excel and Word have it, but I can't find it in PowerPoint. When I have several PowerPoint files open at once, I like only one window to appear in the taskbar.

Is there an option to stop several powerpoint windows appearing in the taskbar at the same time?

I'd like to know this as well. Just upgraded to PP2010 and saw this was removed. As I generally work with PP a lot, this is really inconvenient to have so many open in my taskbar.

It is definitely there in 2007, why the hell would you remove this for 2010?

PP2010 is now Single Document Interface. Each document has it's own App Window (Interface) with a ribbon so I guess that's why it needs to show all the windows. I suppose you already know you can combine the icons to save taskbar real estate?

Yeah, I just changed that setting in the taskbar to collapse them. Still strange to we why PPT is treated differently to Word and Excel. I don't see any practical reason why a separate window for each PPT document is needed - it's not like you are customizing and saving the ribbon per document.

Lots of people like to edit/compare between muliple presentations two windows using twin monitors. It's a real pain when you dont have two ribbons. It's really a very good thing and worth the slight inconvenience of the taskbar IMHO.

I use ppt a lot and I have never once needed to look at two presentations on two different monitors and edit them independently. I also use Excel and Word a lot and have had multiple occasions where two monitors to edit and compare two documents would have been useful. So that makes no sense to me.

I was just quoting my opinion though I know that is was a much requested feature for PowerPoint, I can assure you that many people edit and compare presentations side by side on two monitors though.

Google for PowerPoint Two Windows and I think you would find my opinion isn't unique! Not worth an argument though ;-)

But I just went back to my Office 2007 PPT machine and successfully unchecked the 'show in multiple windows in the taskbar' option that is in the 2007 version and I could see two PPTs open on two monitors - both with ribbons showing. So the functionality to edit two PPTs on two separate monitors was already there in 2007.

Maybe there is just some hidden technical reason why they changed it in 2010 - probably something to do with actually displaying and playing two live presentations would be my guess.

That really wasn't normally possible in 2007 as it was a Multiple Document Interface programme.

If you have a way (other than the method we publish as Multi Monitor Magic) to have two presentations each with their own ribbon then I would be genuinely interested to hear it. Please send me the method and a screen shot (if it's possible on two monitors it would be possible on one) and I'll happily publish it.

Ok, so I stand corrected. I opened up PPT, clicked off the collapse windows option, then opened PPT again, but when I opened it again I actually used a start-menu option that linked to a separate instance of office on the same machine - so I effectively had 2 different PPTs running (this was instead of using the desktop shortcut I usually use but couldn't be bothered looking for). So I guess that is not that different from the work-around you posted - opening PPT under another user or opening a completely separate instance will give you the same result (but I wouldn't suggest having 2 versions of Office on one machine, it does stuff things up a lot).

But you're right, a single instance won't give you two windows in 2007.

I agree two versions on a PC is not always good (though we do it)

2003 and 2007 or 2003 and 2010 can be made to happily coexist but 2007 and 2010 much less so.

Of course it's nearly always bad to edit on two screens with different versions!

We only have one PC running 2010 64 bit as a tester because 64 bit Office stuffs so much of the code we write! If there are any coders here who can explain how to use WindowsFromPoint successfully in Office 64 bit I'd be very happy to hear!
