Default Keeping a group open

In previous versions of MS Powerpoint, you could drag the Autoshapes out to make multiple shapes. (For instance, if you wanted to make a smiley (assuming you didn't want to use the default shape), you would drag the window containing Autoshapes out for quick access to the Autoshapes)

Now you are presented with this:

Okay, great, but how do I make it so I don't have to keep clicking "Shapes"? I want the Shapes dialog always on my screen

Thanks, MS, for making even the most simple of tasks difficult.
