Default Motion paths and shrinking textbox

In PPt 2007... I have a slide with a map outline on it and want to have text boxes giving place names (with a locator spot to the left of the text, possibly just a letter O in a red colour), in a large font size, following a custom-drawn motion path and then "shrinking" to the equivalent of a very small font size, so that there is room on the map for lots of them - the point being that at the final size, as projected on a screen ,the town names will be too small to read, so they have to start large so the viewers can see which one it is and where it is ending up. (The aim is to show graphically the foundation over many years of Catholic churches in several counties of south-east England. )
I can do all that by combining the provided animation effects. What I cannot do is get the "locator spot" to the left of the town name, to line up precisely where I want it (there is a semi-transparent template map overlaid which give me the exact position of the towns so I can match up the labels I am overlaying. At the end I will delete that template).
What I need to be able to do is to designate one specific point on the text box/object I am moving - say, its bottom left hand corner, or the centre of the "locator spot" - and trace the motion path so that that point ends up, at the end of the animation effects, in a very specific point on the map.

This is very difficult when the object has to start big and shrink ! There are too many town-name-labels to go through a long process of trial-and-error on each one.
Any ideas ? The motion path is dispensable, it could just be the text box shrinking down to size from over the desired position, but it needs to shrink by reference to a point other than its centre.
