It isn't clear what your goal is.
You can also activate the Freeform tool and hold down Ctrl as you click on the square or circle to break it into segments.
Or maybe it will help you to know that you can go to the Format tab and choose Edit points.
I don't know because it isn't clear to me what you want to produce.
