Default Animations running when going back through slides

Hi,
I have a user in the office who has a powerpoint presentation he has been working on. Some of the slides have short cartoon animations on them. The first time he opens the slide the animation runs and he can continue through the presentation.

If he wants to go back the slide with the animation is at the end of the animation.
When he then closes the presentation he is asked if he wants to save the changes to the document, even if he hasn't made any changes. That wouldn't be a problem but if he saves the changes and goes back into the slide the animation is at the end of the sequence again.
Does anyone know the setting to change to make the animation run whenever the slide is opened.
I understand why it might not run when going back but this is also happening when opened as new?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
