Transparent Slide Background
I want to save slides as a .png and have a transparent background so when I put the image onto my video editing software there is no background to block the layers below. You know, the pngs with the checkerboard background on thumbnails. I just updated to Office 2019. In the older version, I would type my text and whatever, then select all, group, then saveas picture (.png). It worked beautifully. Now I do the same and there is a solid white or black background (black comes up when using white text). I want no background. I looked online for solutions, tried everything I could think of. Did MS remove this wonderful feature that I've used 100s of times and am now not able to function ? How do you make the background of slides transparent ?

It didn't work in 2019. Of course I tried that.

I'm just saying it works here in 2016, 2019 and 365 on W10 That's assuming you are right clicking > save as Picture
FILE >SAVE AS > choose PNG as type does not work and never has. |

Didn't work
I tried both ways to saveas png. Didn't work. I think MS inadvertently took out the function in the newest version - and it is painful for me.

It hasn't been taken out but maybe you PC or Graphics card driver has a problem or maybe we are not doing exactly the same thing.
This (VERY) simple png was made in 2019 and as you can see it has transparency when opened in PhotoShop. |

PNG background
What I had to do is save the blank PowerPoint slide as a PNG open up in Adobe Elements and received a message to change the "color mode" to rgb colors to delete.
I selected the background and deleted and saved my file again. When I view in Windows it's looks like it has a black background. However when I opened it up in a Photo viewer it was transparent, but you did not see the checkered portion. I will try using the method the other person mentioned to see if it works for me. Not matter what I try it won't show the checkered background. It just goes black, but opens up in a photo viewer as transparent. |

freaky testing
I took a powerpoint file that I had used to create my transparent background slides on my old computer. I did the right click - saveas picture. I now have the powerpoint same file with the origin png saved on old computer and one made in identical way on new computer. PNG from old computer worked fine on video editing program, same thing done on new computer has solid background that covers the layers underneath. It's the new version of powerpoint or Windows 10 or ?? or ?? or ??
