Can't remove animation effects from a slide
I'm finding it impossible to remove animations from powerpoint slides. I suspect the reason is that I set animations in my master slide, and then imported a slide deck, thus setting animations on for every slide. There are several websites explaining how to remove animations but none of them are working for me. In particular, I can't select "None" in the animation menu, because it's grayed out. I've attached a sample slide. If you run a slideshow on it, you'll see that things are out of order, and I'm unable to (easily) fix this. Which is why I want to give up and simply unanimate it. If somebody could explain the steps required, I'd really appreciate it. |

You were so close.
View the PPTX in "normal" view. Go the Animations tab in the ribbon Click on Animation Pane. This should open a sidebar (or bottom bar) NOW, go to the Master View. The animation should be visible in the animation pane and can be deleted. You won't see the animation unless the animation pane is open BEFORE going to the master. |

Sorry, my MWE was too minimal
Thanks very much for your response @Eowyn. Unfortunately, I should have submitted a more complex MWE. In the new attachment, there are two slides. I want to preserve animation on the first slide and remove it on the second. When I follow your instructions it removes it on both. Is there any way to remove animation on *just* the selected slide.

you need different masters, one with animation and one without. First see if switching the layout of the non-animated slide is sufficient. Your demo template showed at least 2 master “sets” so it’s possible there may already be a layout that works for you. If this doesn’t work, you will need to go back to the slide master with the animation and right click to duplicates and rename it something obvious like “no animation “ remove the animation from that master only. Then switch the slide layout to your newly created master.

Thanks @Eowyn, I've created a second Master .pptx file which is identical to my basic Master file, except that animations are removed (attached). Now I have two problems.
1) I can't figure out how to insert this second template into my file: I would have thought that "Insert slide master" would give me the option to insert a master slide, but it doesn't. 2) If I succeed in 1), it's not obvious to me how to switch to a second Master for an individual slide. Would you mind showing me how to do that, using the attachment from my previous post and the current attachment? Thanks very much for all your help |

Sorry, I've confused you by skipping past the step-by-step. When I said you needed to make another master, that did NOT mean an entire new file. You are going to stay within one file -- for this explanation, we stick with Sample.pptx
Part of this confusion comes from the way PPT introduced themes and multiple masters. The naming convention is not very friendly; Layout and Master mean sort of the same thing "the base arrangement of the slide" but they aren't always interchangeable terms. Also I'm working from an office that has customized the themes/masters and templates so I can't guarantee I see what you see. Open Sample.pptx On Slide 3, we look on the HOME ribbon tab for the LAYOUT button. When I click on the down arrow next to Layout, I see that the layout is Name "Title and Content" . Further I see that there are 11 layouts possible within the 1_Office Theme, and I also see another 9 layouts possible within the Office Theme. If I change the layout "Title and Content" from the 1_Office Theme to the layout "Title and Content" from the Office Theme, I lose the animation. It also looks to me like the title font changes when I apply the new layout, but it's a minor change. I think that should be enough for the sample; anytime you want the animation, you choose the layout "Title and Content" from the first theme "1_Office Theme" and when you don't want the animation, you choose "title and Content from the second theme "Office Theme" If that doesn't work for you, let me know, and I'll expound more on how to create another "master" HINT, it revolves around clicking on the VIEW tab and clicking on SLIDE MASTER. Unfortunately, I will not be able to respond until tomorrow. |

Fabulous thanks very much, so easy in the end. For anybody else reading, I followed @Eowyn's instructions exactly, except that I only had one Title and Contents master slide option. So I selected BLANK and everything worked perfectly!
