Default Slide master image with color overlay

Hi there,

I am looking to set up a Powerpoint template for a certain brand style that has color overlays. Currently I am working within the slide master. I am trying to set up a shape color or gradient over a placeholder image. The idea is that the client can pick any image they want and it will show up under the color overlay to match their branding.

The problem is every time I do a shape over the placeholder, the image always goes on top. I need this to be super simple and straight forward so someone with zero design skills (an HR team member) can achieve the branded style without overthinking it.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Eric

There is no way to do this. Placeholders will always appear in front. Any solution is not going to be simple and probably involve code to make a ribbon button to automatically insert the shape once the picture was added. This is not a trivial coding problem if you are not an expert coder.

If the colour overlay is also a (colour filled) template placeholder, it does appear on top. But unfortunately in that case it covers the picture icon that you need to click.

Tried to solve that by leaving a blank in the middle and animating the 'completion' of the overlay, but you keep seeing the animation even with the smallest of durations.

I'm attaching the slide anyway. It is not what you need (looks rather silly really), but it might bring someone to a more useful idea.

Sadly Judith's clever trick is not the way to go (good idea though)

As well as the problem clicking the insert button you will find that if you find a way clear the image placeholder (can be done but not by someone with limited skills) it will jump back to the front.
