Default Presentation Video Playback - Windows 7

Hi,

I'm having trouble playing back videos in powerpoint, i've got audio but no video.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows.aspx < Does anybody know whether any of the downloads here are suitable? I'm running windows 7, service pack 1, 64bit, Office 365 Personal which was last updated 2018, according to the notes. I've tried the 'platform update' download but received the installation message that my pc already had this update.

https://support.office.com/en-ie/art...1-593d3418fb59

Judging by the above links, I might need some kind of .mp4 codec. I installed a codec finding software which recommended codec updates and I tried a few which didn't work. I've also been through the options and changed some of the settings which didn't work either. The video image is there in the slide - it just doesn't start playing when I click play - only the audio starts.

Thanks very much

Have you tried inserting the video as a wmv file instead of mp4?

I wouldn't know how to edit the original powerpoint presentation to do that. I'm just watching a powerpoint presentation as it is and am not sure how I'd see what kind of file type the video is.

I tried running a codec installer check to analyse the file and see what codecs were needed but it didn't work. Do you think the only solution is to get in touch with the author? I've done that and just waiting on a reply

Ah sorry, I assumed you inserted the video yourself.
If you want to extract the video as a separate file, you can
- make a copy of the PPT file
- change the extension of the copy from .pptx to .zip
- double click the zip file
- open folder 'ppt' >> open folder 'media'
- the video should be in that folder >> you can see what file type it is, maybe try to re-insert it on the slide etc.

You can also try RIGHT click on the video > save as Media and the file name should give an indication of the file type.
