Default Powerpoint-2019 Text in selected theme remains in All Caps even when small caps option is selected

I have been trying in vain to change the font from all caps to small caps using the theme I have chosen in Powerpoint 2019. Even when I had selected the small caps option on the masterslide font format window, the text remains in all caps. This is very annoying!
