Default Followed hyperlink question

I'm trying to create a Jeopardy style game in PPT. For those who aren't familiar, the main game board is a grid with values in each cell. Players select one of the cells and a presented with a question to answer.

The challenge I'm having is removing the text from the cells that have already had their questions answered, so players have an indication of which questions are still active.

I'd prefer to navigate through the questions by directly entering the slide number in presentation mode. This eliminates the clunky process of hunting around the screen for the correct hyperlink to click.

I know that I can do this with hyperlinks, and then set the color of the followed link to the same as the background. The problem is that the change of a hyperlink to "followed" status is triggered by clicking the link itself, not on displaying the page in the link. What's happening is that I enter the page number to visit the link, but when I return to the main board, the link is still showing as not followed until I click on it.

Does anyone know of a work-around for this?
