Default Updating excel link alters table format in PP

I'm copying a table (range of cells) from an excel '07 worksheet and pasting it into a PP '07 slide. When I paste in PP, I select Past Link, so it will change/update as the excel table does. Then I click and drag the corners to format the table in PP to the shape/size I want it.

The problem is when I select "Update Link", the format of the table changes, meaning, the length and width of the table changes slightly. I can't have this happen, as I am pasting other tables and aligning them to this first one to make the appearance of one big table (but will actually be made of 3 different tables/links - I am doing this so each table can have it's own hyperlink to another slide in the presentation). The link-updating is ruining the size and aligment.

It seems that if I re-size the table and update links again, it doesn't change...it appears to be happening only the first time. Does anyone know why this happens, and better yet, how to avoid it from happening again?

Thanks.
