Default advance trigger

I have designed a trivia game using powerpoint.
On the slide is a picture.

The picture has been entirely covered by squares. Each square is numbered.
the idea is that every time a particular question is answered the relevant square is clicked. The square then disappears and starts to disclose the picture hidden underneath.
This goes on until the time runs out for the contestants.
Once the time has run out, the game facilitator presses a button that has been placed at the bottom right hand side of the slide.

The activation of each individual square is done with a regular animation effect.

However, when I try to get all the squares on the screen to disappear when clicking on the button that has been placed on the bottom right hand side I run into problems.
I am using the trigger effect on the button. Somehow it cancels out the individual animation effects for each square.
