Animations assoc. with sounds are inconsistent across response modes

I develop educational materials using PowerPoint. These resources are displayed on an iPad using the Microsoft PowerPoint app. Recently I've been noticing that the sounds associated with the animations are inconsistent using the swipe to the left trigger ... but are totally consistent if you tap the imaginary vertical bar on the far right of the screen. I've been using the Microsoft PowerPoint app for about two years and have only noticed this problem very recently. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this inconsistency across triggers and more importantly is there a fix?
