Video Skipping back to start when inserting overlay
Hi All,
I am currently creating a user manual in powerpoint & using powerpoints on screen recording tool have inserted a video into the presentation. I want to install some overlays to this which I have started doing, but when I try to insert overlays to certain point of the video. Say a text box at 15 seconds in, the video will just skip right to the first frame. This is very frustrating when trying to insert the overlay next to a specific part of the video Can anyone help I have looked around on the web but no results Please help!! Thanks |

Are you inserting bookmarks in the video timeline to trigger the textbox(s) appearing? This is probably the best option. You might also want to post a screenshot of the animation pane.

Hi,
Yes I am using bookmarks and the triggers this is all fine and works correctly. It is when I am intially trying to insert an overlay, in this case insert a ring around a piece of info within the film. Thie piece of info is at about 20 secs into the film I bookmark & pause the video at this time but as soon as I try to insert the overlay the video returns to the first frame (00:00). This is proving really tricky to find the correct area to insert the overlay. Unforunately I do not think screenshot would accurately be able to display may issue. Any suggestions welcome. |

OK I put a simple demo here
Study the animations and see if you can repro them. The best way to position the ring is to set the poster frame (temporarily) to the 20 second point. |

Thanks John,
That seems to have alleiviated the issue. I will be creating a new video in power point soon, so will try it out and let you know how I got on. Thanks again. |

Thanks John,
I found if you use the Trim Video option in the Playback tab, you can set the video to start from where the overlay is required making it much easier to place. Then I will adjust the trim back to the full lenght once I have complete editing it. |

That would work too but I think the poster frame method is probably better. If you accidentally compress the video you may find the trimmed area is deleted.
