Default Text over video vanishes

I am having a problem with text disappearing when a video is set to loop across multiple slides in PPT 2013. I followed these directions exactly, but when I get to step 7 (setting the number to 999 for full presentation looping), the video forces itself to the front of the stack, and any text falls behind it. The easiest way to reproduce this is to place a video on the slide, follow the instructions, then resize/reposition it so it covers up half of a line of text. When the slideshow starts the text is above the video for a brief moment, then falls back. Does anyone know how to work around this? I'm using a video for the background as a subtle-changing looping wallpaper.

MSFT introduced a new video engine in 2010 which allowed text in front, shaped video, etc

Sadly all of these features only work on a single slide. As soon as you set to play across slides none of the new features work.

In short there's no simple way to have a video background playing across slides.

Browsing through some older posts here ...

For this post I experimented with one slide containing 2 videos, both starting automatically:
- first the one I wanted to play as a background video
- on top of that: a wmv file saved from a presentation containing the other slide elements, with transparent master background and automatic transitions between the slides

Unfortunately the transparent background doesn't work out: still shows white background.

Why am I posting this anyway? Just brainstorming - might bring someone to another idea :-)
