Default Audio Won't Sync

I have pre-recorded the narrative for 17 slides in Power Point using Audacity to also enhance the sound of my voice.

No matter what I do, rehearse timings, record it to change perfectly the slides end up creeping ahead of the audio about a third of the way through and I have been messing around with this for way too long now.
I have seen one suggestion on here that this my be PC dependent? dependent on what??? and I should record the audio for each slide separately are they kidding???, surely this is not the solution to this in 2015? 1997 it might have been.
If anyone can help please please let me know what to do. I'm bordering on spending £1,400 on an Apple Mac and junking PC's and Office...I use office 365 and Windows 7
Thanks in advance
Campbell
