Default Problem with timings on Power Point song presentation

I have a slide presentation that is song lyrics. I've already got the music set up in th presentation and I want to time each slide to the music so that it plays automatically in time with the music.. Unfortunately every time I run it and do rehearse timings, the slides changes don't stay in sync with the music. I turned off any fancy slide transitions so that shouldn't affect timing. I've also tried to adjust the timings manually, but they still go out of sync. What am I doing wrong? I can manually change the slides if I have to, but I only want to do that as a last resort. Am I expecting too much out of PowerPoint 13?
