Videos will not run in PowerPoint 2007
I have a problem with PowerPoint from Office Home & Student running on a Dell optiplex running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I cannot get video clips using AVI or WMV to run in PowerPoint, they run correctly on my PC also running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit but Office 2003 Professional.
The Videos run perfectly in Windows Media Player on the Dell PC so I don’t think codec’s are missing. I have also tried loading the videos as objects but this doesn’t work either. The Dell has recently had Windows 7 repaired and Office Home & Student reinstalled. |

How large are the video files themselves? Do you have to down sample the videos?
Sorry as guessing but have seen this before when videos are too large. |

The files are less than 30MB apart from the WMV which is 88MB all are taken from a You Tube video.

Got it. How high is the encoding for the videos?

Sorry but I have no idea, how do I check. The video is just over 4 minutes

In Windows Explorer you can right click on it and select Properties to find out. I hope this helps.

Thanks. It could be the video encoding. Do you have any tools to try to re-encode it down to a smaller size, even just to test it? I don't have any good recommendations on tools, just know that sometimes this can be the issue.

I have managed to get the AVI file to run by renaming it to a MPG file without any other changes and the MP4 file also runs OK however the AVI file runs at tremendous speed. I ran dxdiag which showed Directx 11 was installed, I also ran repair on PowerPoint which showed no problems. It's all a bit of a mystery but all's well that ends well. The tip about renaming I found during searches for "AVI won't run in PowerPoint 2007"
Thanks for your help Albie |

Strange, but happy you found a solution and I will be writing that one down for my own future reference.
