I'm using a 2013 version of PPT, i'd like that the image in one of the slides during the presentation would become washed out and the text would appear above this image. Is it possible (by "above" I mean as an upper layer)?

You would have to use two shapes like this (The washed out shape is a rectangle filled with a picture.

Great! Got it. Just one thing... when I make it fade, it fades out completely. Yours remains washed out though...

Did you realize there was a second faded image on mine. The front image fades away revealing the faded one.
