Narration/Audio won't play or isn't present?

Using 2003 here, I'm trying to get the audio file/narration to work on a class presentation I downloaded.



Only one link was provided, so hopefully the narration was embedded.
How would I tell if there is, in fact, a sound file present?

Otherwise, I know they're using an updated office, and I'm thinking they might have embedded an mp3. Trying to open that in PP 2003 probably wouldn't work.
Is there a way to tell if that's the case?



Of note: right-clicking the sound object twice lets me 'Edit sound object', which brings up a small 'sound options' window which tells me the 'Total playing time: 56:31:24'.
The volume is turned up.
The size of the pptx is 22.8 MB.
If I go to file>properties>content, I only see headers for 'fonts used' 'design template' and 'slide titles'.
I've tried fiddling with the action button, mouse over/click, but no dice.

QUESTION Is this a pptx file or a ppt file?

Just under the playing time it should say "File" and then contained in presentation or the path to a link if it isn't embedded. Double clicking would usually play the sound if it is going to work.

If you just need to view the presentation I would suggest downloading the free 2010 PowerPoint Viewer.

"File" is blank.
Double-clicking it or selecting 'Play Sound' displays the 'loading circle' for a split second then goes back to a normal cursor.

I'll give the viewer a try!

I'm still curious about what's up with 2003, if you're inclined to do any more troubleshooting with it.

2010 and on can embed mp3, wma, wav and several other sound file types. 2003 cannot play any of them except wavs.

The 2010 viewer can play most of them.
