Default PP 2007 Linebreak bug - not solvable with language settings

Hi
I have somewhat the same problem with my Powerpoint 2007 as this guy:

http://www.justanswer.com/microsoft-...en-plenty.html
Except it doesn't only occur with a comma. When I write in a textbox or a shape (speech bubble etc), Powerpoint sometimes forces a line break in the middle of a line (not in the middle of a word) without any reason whatsoever. It occurs out of the blue, suddenly there is a line break in the middle of a line and I can't do anything about it. It looks like it turns on word wrap in the middle of the textbox, shape or whatever I am writing in.
Part of the problem can be solved using the language settings->japanese->allow latin text to wrap in the middle of a word. When I ran this procedure, the checkbox was unchecked, and when I checked it, the line breaks disappeared, just as I wanted. BUT: now I am stuck with the another problem, namely that powerpoint wraps the text in the middle of the word which naturally breaks the word into two at the end of each line. The only solution to this problem is doing the language settings->japanese-trick, as far as I can see after searching the web. And if I do that, if I uncheck the Allow latin...-box I get the same problem I had in the first place, with the line break in the middle of the line.
I hope someone can help me with this.

Kind regards
Mikkel Clemmensen

You should only use "Allow latin text to break in the middle of a word" IF you are working in a language where it might make sense (eg Japanese).

Are you sure you understand the limits of text in a shape. If you have eg an oval bubble the text will never reach the sides but live in a rectangle within the shape. You cannot see this rectangle nbut to get an idea of the limits add a single letter and left align to guess the left limit and then right align to see the right limit.

Bottom line there is less space than you might imagine. I don't think you can preview the text boundaries in PPT but you can see them in Word.
Make sure Show Text Boundaries is ticked in options > advanced and add a speech bubble.

Using the Japanese option may seem to help but the rules of Japanese layout are complex and unlikely to make sense.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.
I work with powerpoint everyday, and I am used to working with all kinds of shapes and text boxes. What I am describing is part of a known bug (or problem anyway) in PP2007, that has been solved by changing the language settings as I described, and as described in the link I provided in the question. Unfortunately this, as mentioned, doesn't solve my issue completely.
The problem I am dealing with now is currently occuring in a completely rectangular text box, an several places there is a line break in the middle of a line. Even if I copy the text and paste it as unicode in the same or in a new textbox the same problem occurs. I am quite sure that what is the case here is a PP bug, which is why I hoped that anyone had found some strange or clever way to fix it - because I have tried every trick I ever learned

Kind regards

Mikkel

This is and example of what I am talking about. If I place the cursor at the end of the second line, after the word "magnet", and press space and then delete, we could all agree that the next line ("for den politisk...") should jump up and continue after "magnet" on the second line, right? Unfortunately it doesn't, and instead when I press delete, the first letter in the next line ("f") gets deleted, just like if there was some kind of margin in the middle of the text box. But there isn't, and there are lots of lines below that doesn't present a problem like this. I can't seem to find any consistency in the frequency of the problem, sometimes it is there, and sometimes it isn't. My colleagues, who also work with PP2007, do have the same issue from time to time as well.

You can't see the pic I uploaded in my previous reply? Or what kind of sample do you mean? A ppt-file?

Yes I see the problem in the screenshot but I need a real slide with the issue to see if I can see what is going on.

You can mail it to me if you want

johnATSIGNHEREpptalchemy.co.uk

UPDATE Mikkel sent me a sample. The text contained a lot of non breaking spaces which were forcing breaks. A search and replace should solve it.
