Problem AVI file

I have previously inserted avi files into PPt in Office 2003 on Windows XP without problem. I've had to "upgrade" to Vista and Office 2007 on an HP laptop with 6G of RAM, but I'm not really thinking things are better, faster, or smarter at this point. I've made an avi file from 600 jpg's using software that was set to create a 20 second video at 30 fps using PhotoLapse and using one of the codec's available there.

I tried one codec with no compression and got an 823M file. I used another codec and got a 59M file that looks VERY nice in the Windows Media Player. I have a Presentation TOMORROW in front of more than a hundred people and my PPt isn't finished. When I try to insert the avi file into PPt, all appears normal. I save and then view the PPt from several slides "upstream" of the slide with the video. When the video slide comes on screen, the images seem to advance at a rate of about 1 per second. About 20 frames pass by and then the video stops at 20 seconds, matching the correct run time for the video, but only showing a fraction of the 600 frames in the video.

I've repeated the insert / save / play routine several times. Only one time out of 6 or 8 attempts has the video run correctly. That doesn't give me very good odds of it working properly at my meeting. This HAS to work properly. Is Vista NOT as good when using PPt and avi files?



I cannot downgrade at this late date. The old laptop is not available. I HAVE to make this work dependably. XP always worked right. Is there some preferrable codec that performs more consistently?
