Default Stopping sound on mouse click

I've inserted audio of a song on a PowerPoint 2010 slide. When I click on that slide, I want the audio to stop and the next slide to appear. But PowerPoint insists on playing the whole sound file before advancing to the next slide.

How can I tell PowerPoint to stop playing audio and advance to the next slide when the slide is clicked?

Usually if you set the sound to play automatically (Audio Tools > Playback > Start automatically) that would be the default behaviour. If you open the animation pane and double click the sound entry it should say "Stop Playing on Click".

Maybe explain EXACTLY how you inserted the sound.

Thanks John. I inserted the sound using Insert > Audio > Audio from file. But a lot of the defaults were messed up. I discovered I had to bring up the Animation Pane and change it from Start On Click to Start With Previous. I had to bring up Effect Options and change Stop Playing from After Current Slide to On Click. I had to go to the Timing tab and change the Trigger to Animate As Part of Click Sequence. Finally, I had to go to the Transitions tab and, under Advance Slide, enable On Mouse Click and disable After.

Seems like a lot of work to go through for each of the slides where I wanted that effect, but it worked.
