Default Links issue with power point

1. There is a Powerpoint presentation created in version 2003
2. This presentation has multiple links to various Excel files created in version 2003
3. Each month different users may go into the Excel files and make changes, These changes would later be updated in the Powerpoint presentation when update is run by different users.
4. The Powerpoint presentation was subsequently saved as version 2007

5. Since the Powerpoint presentation was saved as version 2007 the following issues has been occurring:
a. Changes made in the Excel file by User “A”, and later linked to the Powerpoint presentation
b. User “A” exits and close both Excel files and Powerpoint presentation
c. User “A” returns to Excel files and makes further changes, opens Powerpoint presentation and runs updates – Updates works.
d. However, if User “B” goes into Excel files and makes changes, then goes to Powerpoint presentation and runs updates – Updates does not work
6. Updates in Powerpoint presentation only seem to work for the User that last Linked and save the Point presentation.

How do we fix the above issue, to have any user being able to udpdate Excel changes to the Powerpoint presentation?
