Default Powerpoint changing link paths

I have a powerpoint with approximately 30 links to other Excel files. On occasion the path to the file gets changed. I'm the only one who updates this file although there are others that view it. This file is copied each week to be archived and the lastest one is updated. Randomly all of the links have to be changed. It doesn't happen every time.

The links starts out as

\\server\share\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\Exc el.xls

and gets changed to

\\server\share\folder1\folder2\folder3\folderX\folder4\Excel.xls

FolderX is where the powerpoint is located?? The above path is not valid.

Any idea how this happens?? Someone or something is doing it in mass because all 30 links will have an extra folder in it's path. You can't manually try and create that path becase it's not valid. So I don't know how it's getting into Powerpoint.

Thanks!!
