Default Changing the color of the last column in a chart changes the legend

Hello, I have a chart (very simple) with 2 columns and 5 rows of data. The first column lists quarters of the year and a "Total", which is the overall score. The second lists the individual scores for each period and then the overall score. This isn't a sum item, just numbers.

I want to change the color of the final (Total) column in the chart to designate the difference in the measures. When I change the color, the chart legend changes from the Column 2 data header (which is what I want) to the individual quarter names (1Q2013, 2Q2013, etc.).

Can anyone help me figure out why this happens and how to keep it from happening?

If you'd like data to better understand, let me know.

Thanks in advance!
