Default Wipe Animation & Effect Options

Office 2013 Powerpoint shows different selections in the "Effect Options" drop-down box. If I create a text box and type several lines, select Animations then Wipe I see the wipe effect. If I then drop down the "Effect Options" I see all the selections under Direction but only "As One Object" under Sequence, the "All at Once" & "By Paragraph" selections are not shown. Apparently, a sequence of lines input with an <Enter> at the end of each line is considered a single paragraph so the last two options are not applicable?

Thanks for any insight...

No, just a regular text box.

The options show with text / content placeholders. With a normal text box open the animation pane and set each level to "On Click"

Had to go in thru <View>, <Slide Master>, <Insert Placeholder> and select Text. Drew the placeholder on the slide & it was populated with a text template in multiple levels and all the Effect Options are available.

Thanks for your help...
