Problem with Resolution when adding a picture in 2010
I am using PPT 2010 in a photo competition environment. In previous version we could add a picture and it added all of the pixels regardless of the resolution. However, 2010 discards pixels whenever the resolution is higher then 150 ppi. Many of our members have images cropped from scans made at resolutions of 2800 ppi, and 4000 ppi and if cropped to provide a 1400 pixel x 1050 pixel image, PPT 2010 loads this as only a 1/2" x 3/4" image with only 50 x 75 pixels so it cannot be scaled up. Others commonly print their images at 300 ppi and leave that value when then crop to 1400 x 1050 pixels. PPT only discard about half of the pixels in that case but is still gives a distorted image if stretched to full size again.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent this from happening? or detect that it has happened so it can be fixed before the competition? Last edited by Zimm; 10-29-2013 at 02:02 PM. Reason: Forgot to ask for help |

I finally developed a solution. For the benefit of those still reading this thread. There is a solution involving adding a new key to the registry but that was not feasible for an application to be distributed to others. However, I discovered that you can import the picture without specifying the shape, use that import to obtain the shape of the image, delete the previous import and reimport specifying the expanded dimensions you need to fit to the frame correctly and it will then import enough pixels to permit filling the frame to whichever dimension is limiting.
