Title & Subtitle box

If you delete the title and subtitle text box, I have discovered that if you insert a new text box you will not see anything on that slide when viewed in outline. Is there a simple way to make that box a title or subtitle box. The only way I have found to fix this is to insert a new slide & cut & paste.
